Anversa degli Abruzzi is a pretty village with a little over 300 inhabitants. It is located in the province of L’Aquila, in Abruzzo. It is part of the Peligna mountain community as well as the circuit of the most beautiful villages in Italy. Not far away is the must-see reserve of the Sagittario Gorges and the suggestive and hermit fraction of Castrovalva. What to visit in the village of Anversa degli Abruzzi?
- The Norman castle, ruins remain, housed the Triptych of Antwerp, then brought to the Church of Santa Maria delle Grazie, then stolen in 1981 and replaced with a copy;
- the Case dei Lombardi (built between 1480 and 1520);
- the churches in Anversa degli Abruzzi: Santa Maria delle Grazie (16th century) in Romanesque style with three naves; San Marcello (11th century) in Romanesque style with late Gothic portal; Santa Maria ad Nives (9th century) remains of ruins a little downstream towards the Sagittario Gorges, it consisted of an annexed Benedictine monastery and was in Romanesque style; San Vincenzo (13th century), in 1333 a friar was buried there, located a few meters from the town, now remains of the walls; in Castrovalva: Santa Maria delle Grazie; Santa Maria della Neve (16th century); Archangel Michael (12th century);
- the doors: Porta Pazziana; Porta San Nicola;
- the necropolises;
- the botanical garden Gole del Sagittario.
