The Tramontano Castle is located on a hill, called the Lapillo hill, overlooking the historic center of the city of Matera, and takes its name from Giancarlo Tramontano, who in 1497 became count of the city. It was the desires of grandeur of the Tramontano that led to the construction of this fort, which, however, was not completed.
In Aragonese style, the Castle, with a central keep and two round lateral towers, scalloped and equipped with slits, was built starting from 1501 by the Count.
How is it possible to visit the Tramontano Castle?
The castle, at the date of this article, is not open to the public. However, it is possible to visit it from the outside or inside thanks to the FAI days, the Castle, in fact, also belongs to the luoghi del Cuore del Fai.
