Sant’Antimo Abbey is a Benedictine abbey located in the Tuscany region of Italy. It is located near Montalcino, a city famous for its Brunello wine.

The Abbey of Sant’Antimo is famous for its Romanesque architecture, for the beauty of its position surrounded by nature, for its history and for the celebration of its liturgical rites. The abbey was founded around 781 AD. as a Benedictine monastery. It has been destroyed and rebuilt several times over the centuries, the current building dates back to the 12th century.

Why is Sant’Antimo Abbey very popular?

The abbey is also famous for its daily liturgical celebrations, in particular for the famous Gregorian Mass sung by the Benedictine monks who reside in the abbey.

What is the best time to visit?

The best time to visit the Sant’Antimo Abbey depends on your preferences and the activities you want to do.

  • In spring and summer, from the end of March to September, the climate is mild and temperatures are perfect for taking a walk in the surrounding landscape and admiring the beauty of nature.
  • In autumn, from mid-September to November, temperatures are still mild and the landscape is characterized by the warm colors of autumn. It’s a great time to take a trip out of town and to taste local products such as wine.
  • In winter, from December to the end of February, the weather is cold but if you don’t mind the cold it’s a great season to visit the Abbey and attend the daily liturgical celebrations.

In any case, it is always better to check the times of the masses and any restrictions on visits
