The Certosa di San Martino is one of the most evocative places in Naples in Campania. It is a 16th century Carthusian monastery, located on the Vomero hill, which offers a breathtaking panoramic view of the city and the Gulf of Naples.

The Certosa was built in 1325 as a Benedictine monastery, but in 1586 it was restructured and transformed into a Carthusian monastery. Over the centuries, the complex has undergone numerous renovations and expansions, until it reached its current appearance.

How does the Certosa di San Martino look today?

Today, the Certosa houses the National Museum of San Martino. This museum holds important works of art and historical artifacts, including paintings, sculptures, tapestries and everyday objects of the Carthusian monks. Among the most famous works preserved in the museum are the famous Neapolitan nativity scenes from the 18th century, made with extraordinary craftsmanship.

Visiting this place is an unforgettable experience for anyone who loves history, art and culture. In addition to the works of art and historical objects, you can admire the splendid gardens of the complex and enjoy a panoramic view of the city of Naples that leaves you speechless.

For more information on visits and ticket reservations, you can visit the official website of the Ministry of Culture. Photo taken from the Ministry of Culture.
