How to visit the Pietranzoni lake? The Pietranzoni lake is located near Campo Imperatore, in the Gran Sasso d’Italia area. The peculiarity that makes it well known is that, when the climatic conditions permit it (absence of clouds, rain or snow), its waters faithfully reflect the Corno Grande since it is right in front of it.
Lake Pietranzoni is easily accessible as it is located about a hundred meters from the paved road. There are several access points to Campo Imperatore and, therefore, to Lake Pietranzoni, which will allow you to combine the visit with that of some of the most beautiful villages in Abruzzo and Italy.
How to get to the Pietranzoni lake?
- You can arrive from the Farindola side. In this case, we recommend that you visit the village of Farindola, the Cascata del Vitello d’Oro and the Rigopiano wood.
- You can arrive passing through Santo Stefano di Sessanio. We recommend that you also visit the village of Calascio and the famous Rocca Calascio.
- You can arrive through Castel del Monte. In this case, like the one in Farindola, we recommend eating some tasty arrosticini in one of the famous ristori di Campo Imperatore.
- You can arrive via Assergi. In this case, we suggest you pay a visit to the Sanctuary of John Paul II and the Church of the Madonna d’Appari in Paganica.
Also consider that, during the winter season, the access roads to the area are normally closed on the Castel del Monte and Farindola side near the Fonte Vetica refreshment points and on the Santo Stefano di Sessanio side near the Racollo refuge. If the weather is bad, the roads can be closed even earlier, so check before you leave.
