How to reach the island of Ponza? The island of Ponza can only be reached by sea, so there are different transport options based on your geographical location:
- Ferry: there are several ferry companies that offer the passenger transport service from Formia, Terracina and Anzio, both in the summer and in the winter. The journey takes about 1.5-2 hours depending on the port of departure.
- Hydrofoil: if you want a faster and more comfortable journey, you can opt for the hydrofoil, which connects the island of Ponza with Formia and Terracina. The journey time is approximately 1 hour.
- Boat rental: if you prefer to have more freedom and autonomy, you can rent a boat and reach Ponza from different ports on the Lazio coast, such as Sperlonga, Gaeta, Terracina or Anzio.
The island of Ponza can be reached comfortably by ferry (which allows cars to be embarked) or, more quickly, by hydrofoil (with passenger-only service). The port of Anzio is connected to the island of Ponza by the LAZIOMAR company and by the VETOR hydrofoil line.
Ferries to Ponza depart from the ports of Formia and Terracina, covering the line in 2 hours and 30 minutes and carrying both passengers and vehicles. The hydrofoils, smaller but much faster, on which it is not possible to embark vehicles, cover the same line in 1 hour and 20 minutes.
It is important to check the times and prices of the transport services, as they can vary according to the season and the transport company. Furthermore, during the high season, it is advisable to book your trip in advance, to avoid surprises and ensure a seat on board.
