Baia delle Zagare (also called Baia dei Mergoli) is certainly one of the symbolic places of the Gargano area. It is a bay characterized by very high white cliffs from which two large stacks of limestone rise up, shaped and sculpted over many years by the action of the wind. The white, combined with the green of the surrounding vegetation and the blue of the sea create a wild landscape of incredible beauty.
In reality, the Baia delle Zagare are two bays enclosed in this paradise, that of the Zagare (so called because of the orange blossoms, or the lemon trees that are found all around) and that of the Faraglioni, in the direction of Vieste. The Bay can be reached with excursions by sea, through the resort which is located right on the cliff using an elevator dug directly into the rock, or with paths that start from the main road. It is located in the territory of Mattinata, in the province of Foggia.
