Abruzzo returns again under international attention. This time thanks to the interest of CNN that in the article “10 reasons to visit Abruzzo, Italy’s new hot destination” a few days ago, suggests Abruzzo as “new emerging destination” also listing the 10 reasons that should convince tourists of all the world to choose the “green region of Europe” for their holidays.
Maria Pasquale, who signs the article, begins: “Central Italy’s Abruzzo has always attracted visitors thanks to its enviable snow season, but up until recently the majority were European. Now the region, a world away from modern Italy, could be on the verge of an international tourism boom. With incoming travel numbers on the rise in the country, visitors are increasingly searching for lesser known and undiscovered regional destinations — and Abruzzo has it all. This includes lakes, the Adriatic coastline, national parks, imposing mountain ranges, UNESCO heritage sites, some of the most beautiful medieval towns in the country, and an eclectic and diverse cuisine that changes from the beach to the mountains”.
Of course, it is a shared point of view and also the Abruzzesi themselves have, but in the era of global competition it is necessary that the strengths reach as many people as possible in order to carve out a slice of the market that is getting bigger but, at the same time well-targeted, which can give breath and prospects to the regional tourism sector.
Besides the successful tourist project of the Transiberiana d’Italia, the train that runs on the Apennines, another good news of these days is a project that, if realized, will really give to Abruzzo new touristic chances. We are talking about a cycle-pedestrian itinerary that, through the ancient Tratturo Regio, will connect L’Aquila to Foggia, crossing then Abruzzo, Molise and Puglia regions.
