It is known for its scenic beauty and for being one of the largest mountain areas in Europe. The plain is surrounded by mountains, including the Gran Sasso, the highest peak in Italy.

Campo Imperatore and the flowering of crocuses

The flowering of crocuses in Campo Imperatore is an annual event that attracts thousands of visitors to a mountain area located in the Abruzzo Apennines, Italy. The crocuses of Campo Imperatore are of various species, including Crocus vernus, Crocus tommasinianus and Crocus biflorus. This event is considered one of the main tourist attraction points of the region. It attracts many visitors for the beauty of the flowers and for the possibility of going on excursions in the unspoiled nature of the Abruzzo Apennines.

When does flowering start?

The flowering period is usually between the end of February, March and the beginning of April. It sees the flowering of thousands of wild crocuses on the meadows and along the paths of the natural park.

Furthermore, the Piana di Campo Imperatore is a very popular tourist area, with many attractions such as the Gran Sasso and Monti della Laga National Park, the Stiffe caves, the thermal springs of Campotosto and the flowering of wild crocuses in spring.
