Massimo Troisi was a famous Italian actor, director and screenwriter, born on February 19, 1953 in San Giorgio a Cremano, a town in the province of Naples, in Campania.
San Giorgio a Cremano is an ancient village located at the foot of Vesuvius, a few kilometers from Naples. The historic center of San Giorgio a Cremano is characterized by narrow and winding streets, and preserves numerous historical testimonies, including the Clock Tower and the Royal Palace, the ancient summer residence of the Bourbons.
Massimo Troisi spent most of his life in Massimo Troisi. Here he attended classical high school and began to cultivate his passion for the theatre. The film received 5 nominations at the 1996 Oscars, one for best film, best leading actor (Massimo Troisi), best director (Michael Radford), best adapted screenplay and best dramatic soundtrack. Only this last candidacy, however, resulted in the conquest of a statuette.
Unfortunately, Massimo Troisi died prematurely in 1994, a few months after the filming of “Il Postino” ended, due to heart problems. His disappearance has aroused great emotion in Italy and in the world of cinema, which has lost one of his most talented and loved artists.
