The Terme Libere Piscine Carletti are completely free and the quality of the thermal waters is among the best in Italy. In fact, the thermal waters can boast some of the highest temperatures in the pool (not in the source) which are channeled into different pools (about a dozen) which, having different layouts and sizes, can guarantee different temperatures, from the highest to the lowest.
It is precisely this characteristic that makes them very similar to what the ancient Romans did in the spas they built in the cities, that is, with water that enters and exits the different tanks it is possible to recreate the frigidarium-tepidarium-calidarium path.
Where are located?
Queste terme libere si trovano nell’area di Viterbo, in Lazio, chiamata “Bagni di Viterbo” proprio perché ricca di fonti termali, oltre quella delle Piscine Carletti.
These free spas are located in the area of Viterbo, in Lazio, called “Bagni di Viterbo” precisely because it is rich in thermal springs, in addition to that of the Carletti Pools.
When to visit them?
The spa is free and can be visited all year round. Parking is located in the immediate vicinity. Our advice is to visit them at sunset during the summer season or in the middle of winter to enjoy the sensations of pleasure caused by the thermal shock with the outside temperature.
How to visit the Piscine Carletti free spa?
To get here it is simple, you have to leave the town of Viterbo and head towards Tuscania via the Strada Tuscanese. As soon as you pass the Air Force entrance, you need to continue for about a kilometer and find the thermal area of the Carletti Pools.
You will realize that you have arrived and begin to see (at any time of the year) bathers in bathrobes and slippers wandering around the surrounding meadows. We recommend parking directly on the huge lawn (there is always a space).
Some suggestions
- Spas are healthy environments for our body, but we recommend consulting your doctor before using them
- the parking available is very large. The advice is to take a reference point where you access the swimming pool so that you can find your vehicle easily.
What to visit in the surrounding area?
In the surroundings of the Free Spa Piscine Carletti there are numerous fascinating places to explore. Viterbo, with its medieval historic center and the Palace of the Popes, is a must.
Vitorchiano, an enchanting village with picturesque alleys and breathtaking views, offers a suggestive walk. Lake Bolsena, the largest volcanic lake in Europe, is ideal for a relaxing day.
Lake Vico, immersed in the Nature Reserve, offers spectacular scenery and outdoor activities. The Etruscan Necropolis of Castel d’Asso allows you to immerse yourself in ancient history, while the Ruspoli Castle in Vignanello fascinates with its Renaissance gardens and historic architecture.
