Padula is a beautiful village located in the Campania region, in the province of Salerno. It is located about 100 km southeast of Naples and a few kilometers from the border with Basilicata.
The main tourist attraction of Padula is its famous monastery, the Certosa di San Lorenzo. This monastic complex, considered one of the largest and most impressive in Europe, was built between the 13th and 18th centuries in Baroque style and offers a great variety of attractions, including the church, library, cloister, refectory and gardens.
Among the other places of interest in Padula are the historic center of the village, with its narrow and winding streets. Furthermore, the Castle of Padula (ruins), a medieval fortress dating back to the 10th century which offers a panoramic view of the Sele river valley and the surrounding landscapes.
Padula is also famous for its local cuisine, which includes dishes based on porcini mushrooms, lamb, cheese and typical products of the region. Local specialties include spring fusillo, stuffed aubergines and Padula salami.
Finally, Padula is located in a strategic position to visit other places of interest in the region. Such as the city of Salerno, the Amalfi Coast and the Cilento and Vallo di Diano National Park.
