The Big Bench is an art installation located in the municipality of Careggine, in the province of Lucca, in Tuscany, Italy. It was created in 2019 by the local artist Giuliano Mauri, and was made on the occasion of the filling of the artificial lake of Vagli, which made the old village of Fabbriche di Careggine emerge from the bottom.
The Giant Bench is exactly what the name suggests: a large wooden bench that stretches 60 meters along a mountain slope. The installation offers a panoramic view of the valley below and the surrounding landscape.
The Giant Bench was created as a public artwork, to offer visitors a unique experience and to celebrate the beauty of nature and the Tuscan landscape. The installation was made entirely of cedar wood, a sustainable and weather-resistant material.
The Giant Bench has been placed in a panoramic area, at about 1,000 meters above sea level, so that visitors can enjoy a breathtaking view of the valley below. The surrounding area is characterized by mountains, forests and meadows, which offer many hiking routes for visitors.
In summary, the Giant Bench of Careggine is a one-of-a-kind art installation located in a breathtaking natural landscape. A visit to the Giant Bench is a suggestive and unforgettable experience, which I recommend to anyone who loves art, nature and Tuscany.
