The Campello sul Clitunno hermitage is a religious complex located on the top of a hill in the Umbrian valley, a few kilometers from Spoleto. The hermitage was founded by St. Francis of Assisi in the 13th century, and was inhabited by Franciscan friars for many years.
The hermitage consists of a series of chapels and religious buildings, including the church which contains frescoes from the 14th and 15th centuries. Inside the hermitage there are also numerous caves, where the friars retired for prayer and meditation.
The Campello sul Clitunno hermitage is also famous for its panoramic position, which offers a spectacular view of the surrounding valley. Furthermore, the hermitage is surrounded by a beautiful garden, where it is possible to stroll and enjoy the peace and tranquility of the place.
