The Corsona Castle is a fortified complex located in the homonymous village in the urban area of Pienza, along the provincial road 71. The complex was built in the 15th century and subsequently became a fortified farm. There have been many changes of ownership over time. Rectangular buildings were built in the 19th century to serve as granaries. At the beginning of the twentieth century the entire complex was restored by the Sienese architect Arturo Viligiardi.
During the renovation works in 1913 a chapel was built in a pre-existing building originally used for other agricultural purposes. The fortified complex consists of several interdependent buildings, which have a total of 15 sides. Among these stands the square section tower that rises to the west of the complex.
In evidence is the cistern built in 1659 and restored in 1913 to collect water. The nineteenth-century granary is characterized by the presence of two noble coats of arms of the Forteguerri family who commissioned the work. Located in the heart of the homonymous farm, the Castello di Corsona is a farmhouse accommodation with seven separate apartments, where some tenants lived until the seventies.
