Have you already walked in the ‘Snow White Wood’? Once the monumental wood of Sasseto matched the garden of a castle and it was here that the Marquis Edoardo Cahen wanted to be buried.
The name of the wood is due to the many lava boulders originating from an ancient volcano. Centennial trees over 25 meters high and with diameters greater than one meter have grown between the boulders. The place is cloaked in a particular atmosphere thanks to the twisted shapes of the trees, the large trunks on the ground, the mantles of moss and ferns and a rich undergrowth, which in spring dispenses multiple blooms.
Right in a clearing of trees opens a beautiful neo-Gothic mausoleum, which unfortunately is in a state of neglect and abandonment. The sarcophagus inside was even desecrated.
Why is it called Snow White Wood?
The Sasseto wood has been given this clear reference to the fairy tale of Snow White by National Geographic magazine precisely because of its magical and enchanted atmospheres that you can enjoy live during a visit.
Where is it?
You may not believe it but the Snow White forest really exists. It is found at the foot of the castle of Torre Alfina, in the deep heart of Tuscia, in Lazio. An extraordinary corner of biodiversity stolen directly from fairy tales.
We recommend that you be accompanied by a guide through the paths to discover the legends of the place and to fully understand its magic.
