Seeing animals in the wild is certainly one of the most beautiful experiences you can have in nature. Especially for children whose beauty is amplified by their desire to know and discover the world.
We are in the heart of the Abruzzo, Lazio and Molise National Park and a small village in Abruzzo, Villetta Barrea is known for the possibility of “meeting” deer and fallow deer in the streets of the village, while they are eating or just for a simple walk with their puppies. We like to tell you about the ways in which you can watch and let your children watch this unforgettable show.
How to see the deer and fallow deer in Villetta Barrea?
- In the village / The simplest and most particular way is to walk normally through the streets of the village and very probably, from behind a wall, in a garden or in a car park, you will be able to admire specimens of deer and fallow deer that are used to the presence of man and therefore will hardly run away. Please, always keep a safe distance and do not disturb them since we are the guests in their environment! 🙂
- Daini Visitor Center / If maybe, while visiting the village, you won’t come across animals but don’t want to leave the children feeling sorry, we suggest you visit the Daini center (for a fee) near Villetta Barrea (about 8 kilometers away, 8 minutes by car) on the road that leads to Passo Godi and from here down to Scanno. Here you can see the animals up close, see them eat and receive information about them from the centre’s managers.
Take the opportunity of this visit to Villetta Barrea also to visit something nearby, such as the village of Barrea with a wonderful view of Lake Barrea, the Camosciara reserve, the Val Fondillo, the villages of Opi and that of Pescasseroli, Passo Godi and Il Faggio del Pontone (600 years old) and the village of Scanno.
