How to visit the Vallocchie waterfall? The Vallocchie waterfall is located in the immediate vicinity of Castel di Tora on Lake Turano, in the province of Rieti, in Lazio. Its waters contribute to feeding the underlying lake. The waterfalls are immersed in a context of lush greenery and can be reached via a well-signposted path.
What are the ways to reach and visit the Vallocchie waterfall?
There are essentially two ways to visit the waterfall and the long river. One shorter and simpler, suitable for everyone, and the other longer and more demanding for the more trained.
Short and simple route
For the simplest one, we recommend arriving by car as far as the La Posta farmhouse. Going up a few meters, beyond the farmhouse, on the right you will find the beginning of the path marked by the code E13.
From here, walking for about 15 minutes you will reach the long river with two small waterfalls. Going up the last ramp you will arrive at the waterfall further up where a souvenir photograph is definitely recommended. This choice is excellent for everyone, even children and elderly people with minimal training.
Long and demanding route
The second way that we told you before, certainly more demanding, is to follow the not simple hiking path, which starts from the nearby village of Stipes (where you can park) and which in about 2.5 km will take you to the beginning of the E13 path considered in the previous point.
Consider that in this second hypothesis the height difference is important. So the outward journey will be practically all downhill and in about 40 minutes you will arrive at your destination. The return, on the other hand, will be all uphill even with a significant slope (opt for this hypothesis only if you are fit!) and in about an hour you will return to the starting point in the village of Stipes. This second way can also be traveled on horseback.
When is the best time to visit the Vallocchie waterfall?
Like most places affected by water courses, such as along rivers and waterfalls, with exceptions, the best period is always mid-spring (May) when the water abounds and the vegetation reaches its maximum.
