The world fame of the free thermal baths of Saturnia is justified by the fabulous naturalistic context in which they are. These are very large limestone basins that have been created over many centuries thanks to the work of abundant calcium thermal waters. The water starts at higher altitudes and flows into the lower pools through several waterfalls. The water has a pleasant temperature even in winter.

How to reach the Cascate del Mulino (Mulino’s waterfalls)?

Reaching the Cascate del Mulino and the Terme di Saturnia is very easy. It is necessary to take the Provincial Road 10 connecting Montemerano to the village of Saturnia. The road continues straight until you reach a fairly clear curve that runs around the thermal baths complex, then arrived near the destination, park the car.

The curve just mentioned is divided by a small road called Via della Follonata that leads directly to the Cascate del Mulino.

Useful tips

Thermal baths of Saturnia are wide and numerous, but if you arrive here during the most crowded periods, you risk finding far too many people. Especially on weekends and during spring, summer and autumn, Saturnia is often “taken by assault”, especially by foreign tourists. It is normal cause this place is one of the most famous spa resort in the world.

There are no problems to park the car, but be carufull with the large holes in the parking located in the immediate nearness. To eat and take a shower you can use the bar / restaurant overlooking the parking (paying shower).

The water is very hot, about 37 degrees, so remember in the colder months to keep a bathrobe or something similar to hand when you go out, as the temperature range between inside and outside the thermal waters is high.
