San Giovanni waterfall is a waterfall located in the Abruzzo region of Italy. It is located in the Majella National Park, near the town of Guardiagrele. To reach the waterfall, you can take a hiking trail that starts from the locality of Bocca di Valle, a few kilometers away from the village.
How to walk the path to the San Giovanni waterfall?
The path is 6950 m long and has a vertical drop of about 500 meters up and 550 down and the total walking time is about 3 hours. Fresh and deeply incised, the Vesola valley is characterized by the presence of the well-known San Giovanni waterfalls. The path starts from Bocca di Valle. Near the entrance, we recommend a visit to the shrine dedicated to Andrea Bafile.
The initial section of the path is very easy and can also be traveled by people with disabilities. You begin to climb gently through a mixed forest rich in tree essences including chestnut trees, rare on the Majella. The continuation of the path becomes less easy and is feasible by trained people who accompany you up to the waterfall.
When is the best time to visit the waterfall?
The best time to visit the waterfall is from May to October when the water level is highest and the weather is warmest. During the winter, the trail can be difficult to navigate due to inclement weather conditions. It is advisable to be well equipped, to bring water and to wear shoes suitable for walking.
