Sant’Agata Dé Goti is a beautiful medieval village located in the Campania region, in the province of Benevento, about an hour’s drive from Naples.
The village is located on a hill 180 meters above sea level. It is surrounded by well-preserved medieval walls and towers. One of the main points of interest in Sant’Agata Dé Goti is the Longobard Castle. An imposing fortress dating back to the 9th century that offers a panoramic view of the city and the valley of the Tammaro river.
Among the other tourist attractions of the village are the Cathedral of Sant’Agata. It is a 12th century Romanesque church with a beautiful stone portal and a frescoed crypt. It is also possible to visit the Civic Museum which houses a collection of archaeological finds and works of art.
Sant’Agata Dé Goti is also famous for its traditional cuisine. This includes specialties such as fusilli alla santagatese (handmade with durum wheat flour and water) and Falanghina del Sannio wine, produced with grapes grown in the surrounding area.
Finally, the village hosts various cultural and folk events throughout the year. Among these we remember the Feast of Sant’Agata, which is held every February and includes a solemn procession and a traditional market.
