The Trans Europ Express is back. A date that will go down in the annals of railway tourism in Calabria. On 18 July, thanks to the Fondazione FS, from Reggio Calabria Centrale to Roma Termini it will be possible to travel aboard a re-edition of the Rapido “Peloritano”, composed of the glorious Gran Conforto carriages in Trans Europ Express and Bandiera livery, masterfully restored according to the original construction canons, from the FS Italiane Foundation.
It will leave at 8.20 from Reggio Calabria Centrale, with intermediate stops in Lamezia Terme Centrale (9.46) and Salerno (12.28), with expected arrival in the capital at 3.48pm. At the head of the convoy an E656, the Caimano, the electric locomotive born in the 70s and which the press defined it, at the time, “the super-locomotive that pulls 20 carriages at 160 km / h”.
It will be a leap into Italy and into the Calabria that it was, between the 70s and the end of the 80s. On board the convoy, the staff of the Ferrovie in Calabria Association will be available to travelers throughout the journey. And that’s not all: on July 16th another incredible surprise from the FS Italiane Foundation will be dedicated to Calabria! But this will be discussed in a few days. For now, we inform you that the Peloritano – also in the Messina – Palermo lines and vice versa, is already online and can be booked on the Railbook portal. Please note that places available are limited.
