Without doubts, it is one of the most hidden, secret and fascinating coves of the Vasto’s coast and of the whole Trabocchi’s coast. It is called Trave beach and is located right on the stretch of coast at the historic center of Vasto with access from the State Road 16 (SS16).
It is a magical place, unknown to many (even to the same people who lives in Vasto). It is accessed by crossing what that, until a few years ago, was the railway (which is now becoming a stretch of the Adriatic bike path that will connect Martinsicuro with San Salvo). It is a tiny beach mixed with sand and stones with some small and large rocks just inside the water.
But the great protagonist of the Trave beach is he, a magnificent and perfectly preserved Trabocco that seems to be suspended between the sea and the mainland, in silence, with the gentle waves lapping beneath him and with the small boats of the fishermen appearing at the horizon behind him.
The water is another great protagonist of this beach cause it is almost always very clear and calm because of the small cove in which the beach of Trave is positioned. Safe landing also chosen by the ancient Romans because it was precisely in this place was the ancient port of the Roman city of Histonium. What’s more, you can still see the remains of the structure of this port in the same beach (with Roman walls that protrude from the sand) and a few meters from the shore thanks to easy diving with mask (in summer special events are organized).
If you really want to visit one of the less known places of Vasto but perhaps one of the most fascinating, add the Trave beach among the places to visit during your holiday in Vasto and in the Trabocchi’s coast.
