The Tempietto del Clitunno is a small chapel in the shape of a temple in the municipality of Pissignano (PG). It is located about 1 km downstream from the springs of the Clitunno river (“Fonti del Clitunno”), in an area where there are other resurgences (“Vene del Tempio”), in the hamlet of Pissignano.
It is part of the serial site “Longobards in Italy: the places of power”, including seven places full of architectural, pictorial and sculptural testimonies of Lombard art, inscribed on the UNESCO World Heritage List in June 2011.
The interior includes the cell, covered by a barrel vault and with an aedicule which frames the apse at the back. There are frescoes from the 7th century (the Savior between Saints Peter and Paul and Angels), which have similarities to those of Santa Maria Antiqua in Rome.
