Spring is a very interesting season for the nature of Valtellina, a mountainous region located in Northern Lombardy, Italy.
In this season, temperatures start to rise and the snow starts to melt, resulting in a lush green landscape. Valtellina is famous for its alpine meadows, which in spring are filled with colorful flowers such as crocuses, anemones and daffodils. The woods are also full of life, with trees growing green leaves and a myriad of birds returning to nest.
Furthermore, spring is the perfect time to admire the Valtellina waterfalls, which fill with water thanks to the melting snow. Among the most spectacular waterfalls in the area are those of Acquafraggia, rather close to Piuro, and those of Val di Predarossa, near Teglio.
In spring, it is also possible to spot the wild animals of the Valtellina, such as ibex, chamois and deer, which come out of their winter shelters in search of food. It is not uncommon to also meet marmots, foxes and golden eagles.
In short, spring in nature in this part of Lombardy is a unique and unforgettable experience, which I recommend to experience at least once in your life!
