Boville Ernica is a village in the province of Frosinone in Lazio. It is part of the circuit of the most beautiful villages in Italy as an honorary guest. It has very ancient origins and developed with 3 different settlement phases: a protohistoric or pre-Roman one, a Roman one and a medieval one.
To testify the journey of the city through time through the various periods of history, there are remains of the Iron Age, megalithic walls at the Rocca di Monte a Fico, remains of the Roman period and around it can only be circumscribed by a medieval wall with towers that run through the historic center born in the tenth century. Church of San Pietro Ispano
Nella chiesa di San Pietro Ispano, oltre ad un sarcofago paleocristiano con una particolarissima decorazione a bassorilievo, è conservata una rarissima opera a mosaico di Giotto, L’Angelo, proveniente dall’antica basilica costantiniana di San Pietro di Roma dove affiancava il grande mosaico della Navicella e che il monsignor Simoncelli, segretario del Papa Paolo V Borghese, riuscì a preservare dalla distruzione durante i lavori di ammodernamento e a portare nel suo paese, insieme ad altre importanti opere del Sansovino (la Madonna con Bambino) e di Andrea Bregno, che si possono ammirare nella stessa chiesa.
Convent of San Francesco
The frescoes found in the restoration of the former church of the ancient convent of San Francesco are from a little later than Giotto’s time.
Church of Santo Stefano
In Santo Stefano there is a collection of canvases from the Bolognese school of the 17th century.

In San Michele Arcangelo there is a canvas by Cavalier d’Arpino and the funeral monument of Cardinal Ennio Filonardi.
The Walls of Boville Ernica
The city is surrounded by an imposing wall dating back to the Middle Ages. From these walls rise eighteen towers. Some of these towers are square in plan, while others are round in plan. On one side of Monte del Fico there are instead more ancient megalithic walls, dating back to the pre-Roman period, which have been considered by scholars to be walls to defend a village and then, on the basis of some findings, connected to a religious place.
