What to visit in Atrani? Atrani is an Italian city on the Amalfi coast, in the province of Salerno, in Campania. It is one of the smallest cities in Italy, with an area of only 0.62 km² and a population of around 1,200.

Atrani is known for its scenic beauty and for its ancient history. The city is located on the coast of the Tyrrhenian Sea, a few kilometers from Amalfi, and offers a breathtaking view of the Amalfi coast.

In the historic center of Atrani you can admire buildings of great architectural value, such as the Church of Santa Maria Maddalena. Furthermore, Atrani is also the birthplace of San Giovanni Battista, the patron saint of the city.

In addition to the scenic and historical beauty, Atrani is also known for the production of limoncello, a lemon-based liqueur typical of the Amalfi coast.

In summer, Atrani is a very popular destination for tourists, who can enjoy the natural beauty and historical treasures of the city, as well as swim in its crystalline waters.

Here are 5 places we recommend you visit during a trip to Atrani

  • Church of Santa Maria Maddalena: located in the historic center of Atrani, the Church of Santa Maria Maddalena is one of the most important places of worship in the city. Built in the 12th century, today it is possible to admire works of art of great value, such as the 15th century wooden Crucifix.
  • Atrani beach. Those who want to go to the sea will find in Atrani a small but wonderful beach where they can swim and sunbathe. The lido is crossed by the mouth of the Dragone river and is located in a protected inlet with a very beautiful landscape.
  • Grotto and house of Masaniello. Tradition has it that Masaniello took refuge in this cave for some time, hunted down by the soldiers of the viceroy of Naples. Historically it has been ascertained, however, that the house not far away belonged to the maternal family of Masaniello, who was therefore half from Atra.
  • Church of San Michele Arcangelo (“Camposantino”): Called San Michele Fuori le Mura, because it is located outside the ancient city walls, near the North Gate, on the border with Ravello. It was built between the 11th and 12th centuries. (Salazaro), obtaining it from a cavity on Mount Civita. It is accessed via a flight of stairs at the top of which is the bell tower, under which the pedestrian path passes.
  • Church of San Giovanni Battista: located in the historic center of Atrani, the Church of San Giovanni Battista is one of the most important places of worship in the city. Built in the 13th century, today it is possible to admire works of art of great value, such as the 15th century wooden Crucifix.
